House MV: A Unique Mass Design Hillside House in Chile

featured-image

The residence located on a sloping hillside in the southern area of Laguna Aculeo, Paine, Chile, boasts a modern and stunning design. This house, designed by Cristian Alvarado Espinoza, spans a building area of 230 square meters and serves as a second home for a family, offering a unique and unconventional appearance within its surroundings.

Two separate building masses with different orientations come together as one in the creation of this residence. Interestingly, the upper mass serves as the entrance to the house. This is because the flat portion of the structure is situated at the top, while the lower mass is positioned on lower ground due to the hill's slope.

On the ground floor, which is the upper level, visitors are welcomed by greenery and the refreshing presence of a swimming pool at the entrance of the house. Wooden decking dominates the area around the building and its entrance. The exterior of the house features a modern, sleek design with a black color scheme and glass windows with frames. The entrance door stands out with its unique blue color, harmonizing with the house's swimming pool.

Upon entering the house, the ground floor serves as the public area, housing the kitchen, dining room, and living room. As visitors enter the space, they are greeted by the kitchen with its barn-style table. Adjacent to the kitchen is a spacious dining area. The staircase leading to the lower floor is also located in this area, with concrete walls built for safety and circulation efficiency.

The living room, located at the end of the room, offers an interesting view through its glass windows. There is also a door leading to an outdoor terrace, allowing occupants to enjoy the view in the morning and evening. Various furniture items, such as chairs and swings made from wood and bamboo, seamlessly blend with the material of the walls and ceiling.

The entire layout of the rooms on this floor is open, without partitions or dividing walls. This creates a sense of good air circulation and natural light throughout the space. Additionally, all rooms with their respective functions feel spacious and uncluttered.

The next floor, located below, serves as the more private area with bedrooms. There are two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and two other bedrooms with bathrooms provided outside. This floor also features a lounge area, providing a space for gatherings. The walls of this floor are utilized for storage with the inclusion of wardrobe cabinets.

All four bedrooms have access to the terrace. The first three bedrooms can access the terrace through sliding windows in their rooms, while the master bedroom has a door within the room. This area offers beautiful views.

At one end of the second-floor corridor, there is also an exit door connected to an external staircase next to the swimming pool. This allows the occupants to directly access the refreshing pool and garden area from their bedrooms on the lower floor.

The extensive use of glass in most parts of the house ensures that the interior is filled with natural light. The design is modern and features a simple layout, free from unnecessary complications. The spacious terrace serves as an extension of the relatively small living room, offering a large area for outdoor gatherings and relaxation.
