Steal the Idea, This Compact Apartment in Taipei Has an Open Plan Concept.
This apartment in the Taipei, Taiwan area originally consisted of two bedrooms and left little space for public areas. This compact living space felt cramped and uncomfortable for the owner to move around in.
In order to create a spacious apartment despite its limited area, designer Annby Lin from the local firm A Lentil Design made several modifications in various areas.
The living room is left open to the kitchen without any partitions. Designer Annby Lin placed a three-seater sofa with an additional chair in the living room. The relatively small size of the space led Annby Lin to utilize storage on the wall.
She created open concept shelves that cover the wall, allowing the owner to store various items there. The shelves are made without doors to create an open and airy impression.
This is important for those with limited living spaces to create an open concept to prevent the space from feeling cramped. This open concept also encourages tidiness.
The apartment concept is dominated by white color and wood material. These two elements are well-suited for compact living spaces. The bright white color makes the space feel more open and airy, while the wood material adds warmth and comfort to the living space.
The dining area is placed near the window to receive sufficient natural light. Interestingly, the dining table also functions as an island.
Annby Lin added two simple chairs. The dining table is integrated with the kitchen area. White cabinets were chosen to give the kitchen a clean and uncluttered look.
Next to the kitchen, Annby Lin created a mezzanine. The lower part is used as a storage area and entrance, right next to the staircase.
Interestingly, the upper part of the mezzanine is a second bedroom renovated by Annby Lin. This saves more space compared to the previous apartment layout. The size of the staircase is also made minimalist.
Right in front of the staircase, there is a sliding glass door that separates the kitchen area from the main bedroom. The choice of a sliding door is to save space.
The selection of a sliding glass door is indeed suitable for use in compact living spaces. Glass material was also chosen to create a spacious and open impression.
The arrangement of the bedroom is quite simple with built-in furniture. What's interesting is that Annby Lin created a platform or level for the bed. The level is utilized as storage shelves.
This narrow bedroom also appears to receive sufficient natural light with large windows surrounding it. During the day, there is no need to turn on the lights, and at night, the owner can enjoy the beautiful view outside.
