Who says you can't make the most of a small home? One small house design in London is here to prove that even small spaces can be comfortable and functional with the right furniture and interior design. With inspiration from caravan and boat designs, this house showcases a variety of furniture pieces that serve multiple functions in a small space, offering flexibility in its use.

Nina Tolstrup and Jack Mama from StudioMama purchased a tiny 13-square-meter building with the goal of demonstrating that small spaces can be comfortably lived in. The design of this house allows it to serve various purposes, taking inspiration from the interior designs of caravans and boats.

In the primary area of the house, various activities such as sleeping, working, dining, and more take place within the same space. The furniture design is minimalist, featuring plywood and pastel-colored cabinet doors in shades of yellow, pink, and blue. The cabinets come in various sizes and serve specific functions, such as storing sewing equipment, books, beverages, game consoles, and jars.

As you can see, the cabinet doors slide open, saving space and adding a unique touch to the design. The different colors of the cabinet doors also contribute to the room's aesthetic appeal.

One of the unique features in this house is a cabinet door that can be opened and used as a standing desk. This allows for a convenient workspace for a laptop or other work-related activities.

The sleeping area features a fold-out bed that can be stored away when not in use. When the bed is folded out, vertical bookshelves and a small table on each side of the bed become visible. When the bed is stowed, the room opens up for other activities.

On the opposite side of the sleeping area, there is a kitchen and a chair integrated into the furniture. The kitchen area is designed with a glass panel that creates a sense of spaciousness when you look through it. The lights under the kitchen shelf illuminate the materials and add a stylish touch. The integrated chair has a subtle pink cushion that doesn't overpower the overall look. Additional foldable chairs are also designed to fit under the main chair for easy storage.

Adjacent to the kitchen area, there is a sliding door that leads to the bathroom, which is the only partitioned space in the house. The bathroom design also complements the overall theme, with matching wall colors and storage shelves. A window in the bathroom provides natural light and ventilation.

Back in the main living area, there is a closet storage area next to the bathroom. This space functions as a mudroom, serving as a transitional area between the outside and inside of the building. Near the kitchen, there is a dining table.

The dining area is strategically placed in front of one of the windows, allowing maximum natural light to enter the space. The table and seating are sized to fit the window, providing an ideal spot for meals. Another unique feature of this area is the side panel of the chair, which can be extended to serve as an extra seat for guests.

The schematic drawing illustrates the overall furniture layout in the house. The careful arrangement of furniture maximizes the use of space, creating a comfortable and functional living environment.

In addition to furniture layout, the choice of materials also plays a significant role in the design of this house. The use of plywood for furniture, flooring, walls, and ceilings creates a cohesive and seamless look. The warm colors of the materials contribute to the overall cozy atmosphere, making it a comfortable place to live.
