Wallwasher, Wall Lighting That Makes Your Home Feel More Artistic!
What is Lighting?
Lighting is one of the important aspects when we learn about Interior Design and Decoration, but what is lighting?
The definition of lighting is the illumination of our homes or buildings so that we can feel comfortable in our activities, both indoors and outdoors.
Examples of using lighting inside buildings, such as reading, writing, seeing the surroundings, and so on, can be created with general lighting design. However, if lighting is used for visual effects, displays, aesthetics, and art (paintings, sculptures, etc.), it is often referred to as special lighting design.
Various types of lighting include:
1. General Lighting: General lighting is intended to illuminate the entire space. General lighting fixtures do not have focused light; the light radiates in all directions from the source without obstruction.
2. Directional Lighting: Directional lighting aims to illuminate only specific areas or objects. These lighting fixtures have focused beams of light. Types of directional lighting include downlights, which are often installed in ceilings and emit a narrow beam of light downward, and uplights, which are placed on the floor and project light upward towards the ceiling, walls, or large objects.
1. Uplight
This wall washer uses the "uplight" method to illuminate the walls of the monument at night. LED wall washers offer spectacular scenic effects and can change colors thanks to RGB DMX technology. LED wall washers can be used internally or externally and are formed by specific LED bar technologies that allow for a knife-edge light effect.
The image above is a wall washer for residential homes using the "uplight" method. Its function is to enhance the design on the exterior of the house. A brief explanation of what the uplight method is: Uplight is the direction of light that comes from below to above, where the position of the lamp is facing upwards. The resulting lighting effect is a majestic impression and adds dimension. This type of lighting is more inclined towards decorative lighting.
2. Downlight
The image above shows lighting with home decor using the "downlight" lighting arrangement.
A brief explanation of downlight: Downlight is a type of lighting where the direction of light comes from above and illuminates the objects below. It functions as even illumination. The light comes from lamps embedded in the ceiling, with the light protruding outwards, entering inside, attaching to the walls, or as pendant lights.
Through the adjustment of the angle of light fall, lamps with a downlight direction can create different atmospheres when used for localized and decorative lighting. One commonly used example is a wall washer, which directs light towards the wall, revealing the texture and color of the wall and adding dimension.
3. Directional / Frontlight
As for this one, it is lighting using the frontlight method. Typically, this type of lighting serves the specific purpose of enhancing paintings hung in the house. The direction of the light comes from the front of the object. This lighting technique is recommended to be evenly distributed on the walls of the room because the light is evenly spread, making the photo/painting appear as it is. Unless we want specific parts to appear more prominent, either brighter or darker.
