House in Miyamoto: A House in Japan Without Walls and Part

The building located in Osaka, Japan, has a unique interior layout. Designed by Tato Architects, this 50-square-meter house is a family home for three people. Like most houses, the rooms inside it are not much different.

The facade of the house is very simple and clean. The white-colored building is adorned with several glass windows on each side. This is because this tall house is sandwiched between tall buildings. Therefore, the house must also have openings for light and air to enter the dwelling.

The concept of this house is that all family members can feel closeness inside the house even if they are in different spaces. For the client, rooms without partitions make people inside it not feel lonely because they can easily see the activities of other family members. The only room that is enclosed with a partition is the bathroom.

Each floor is connected by three stairs, which means there is a height difference of about 70 cm between the floors. This height difference can also be used as shelves or storage spaces. The entire interior of the house is filled with white, reflecting light from outside, making it feel spacious and clean.

The house is designed with two spiral floor combinations that connect to the family room. With these two paths, the house is divided into several rooms that need to be accessed through specific areas. The height from the floor to the ceiling of the house reaches 6.9 meters with 13 floating floors inside. These floors are attached to the walls and reinforced with steel cables that connect each floor.

There are two bedrooms in this house, the master bedroom and the child's bedroom. Both bedrooms are quite far apart because they are on opposite sides of the house. For the parents' bedroom, it is connected to a deck area where a room with an open roof helps channel natural light into the dwelling. The master bedroom is located on the upper level of the house, allowing the parents to see the other rooms below.

The kitchen and dining area are in the same place and are located just below the master bedroom. The dining and kitchen areas are designed fairly simply and not too large. It is minimalist and suitable for this small family. The entire house is decorated with wooden and iron and steel furniture. The floor coverings also have their own structure and motifs but blend in with the overall house.

The bathroom can be accessed through a door in the family room. Its entrance is discreetly hidden due to its uniform white color with the walls. In the bathroom, there is a sitting toilet and a sink. For the bathing area, residents must go up one level to the area with a bathtub and shower. This room also features a view of the open deck on the floor above. It's unique and unconventional.
