Satu House: Column-Free Multi-Story House that Creates a Cool and Comfortable Home

This house was designed by Chrystalline Artchitect and is located in Jakarta. The land area of this residence is approximately 330 square meters. The design idea for this house is to maximize the space inside it with limited land. One way to maximize the space is by making the interior of the house more open without partitions or walls.

This three-story house has an interesting room layout. Typically, a multi-story house will place service areas on the ground floor, along with the living room and dining room, and then allocate the upper floors for private zones like bedrooms.

However, the architect chose a different approach. The ground floor of the building is used for the main activity areas because it is considered the most comfortable. Considering the mobility of the residents and the view of the front yard, the ground floor has more advantages compared to the other floors.

The ground floor serves as the main floor in the house, with the third floor or the rooftop as the service area. The ground floor, which is used as the living room and dining room, has a column-free design. The space feels spacious and clean.

Not only the living room or family room, as well as the dining room and kitchen, but this area is also well-utilized with a pool that makes the room feel cooler and more comfortable. This elongated room of about 10 meters feels very spacious and also provides a fresh view.

To design the column-free ground floor, the architect applied a hanging structure on the second floor to the main beams on the third floor. This house is considered to have a lightweight structure because it uses a steel frame as its main structure. The entire main structure was pre-assembled in the factory and then constructed on the building site. This was done to ensure that all connections were perfectly designed.

With large floor beams, it provides design flexibility to optimize the beam's height, allowing hot air ventilation to be placed on both sides of the building. This vertical ventilation allows hot air circulation to exit towards the glass roof on the right and left sides of the building. In addition, the glass roof allows natural light to enter the house.

The second floor of this house is used as a private area for the homeowner's activities. All bedrooms are located in this area, and each room is connected through a corridor on both sides. The bedroom walls in the corridor next to the stairs are used as bookshelves. On the opposite side of the corridor, it connects between the rooms and a multipurpose room. When the corridor door is opened, all rooms become a large open area. Frosted laminated glass is installed on both sides to provide ample light to the ground floor.

On the third floor, or the rooftop, there are various service areas such as service rooms, machinery rooms, a maid's room, storage, and other necessities. Uniquely, besides serving as a service area, the roof of the house is also turned into a rooftop garden, making the atmosphere on the roof more comfortable.

The reflective pool under the stairs can lower the room temperature during the day. It can also create comfort and a calm atmosphere by listening to the sound of flowing water. The indoor terrace made of wooden floors serves not only as a safe play area for children but also as an indoor garage. This house, named 'One House,' is a cleverly designed home with thoughtful ideas to optimize space on limited land.
