The Rockhouse Retreat, as it's known, is a cave house owned by Angelo Mastropietro. Angelo is a businessman who turned a cave into a comfortable residence that resembles a luxurious dream home.

Located on the outskirts of Worcestershire, this cave house offers a tranquil and serene atmosphere with a unique interior and exterior design. It's surrounded by natural stone materials, creating a truly organic ambiance. The house is nestled within the Wyre Forest, Worcestershire, surrounded by lush greenery.

Angelo first stumbled upon this cave while seeking shelter from a storm in 1999 in the Kidderminster area. He felt a connection to the cave and eventually purchased it in a 2010 auction, where it was humorously advertised as "Fred Flinstone's house." He then applied for planning permission from the Wyre Forest District Council to carry out renovations on the cave.

Angelo's life took a turn when he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2007. Struggling with frequent bouts of dizziness, he sought a simpler lifestyle, quite the opposite of city living, and found it in this natural cave dwelling.

Angelo dedicated over 1,000 hours to hand-cut, carve, and excavate the rock, and his efforts paid off. He discovered a freshwater spring that emerged from an 80-meter-long tunnel he dug from the surface. In contrast to the primitive essence of a cave, this dwelling is equipped with running water, heating, and even Wi-Fi.

The lighting in the cave house was carefully designed to create a pleasant and natural ambiance. With a king-sized bed and a wood-burning stove, the central chamber provides comfort during chilly evenings or cold weather. The modern kitchen is fully equipped, and ventilation systems are integrated into the walls.

The Rockhouse Retreat is available for rent, offering a unique experience of cave living combined with modern comfort. The cave house exudes a romantic atmosphere, with an open terrace providing breathtaking views of the natural surroundings. Accessible by car and not far from the main road, this area is a blend of rustic tranquility and convenience.

The cave house is also used for various events, such as weddings with the cave as a backdrop, private parties, and even corporate team-building activities. The surrounding area is truly unique, offering a stark contrast to urban life while remaining accessible by train or car.
