Antimainstream and One-of-a-Kind in the World, Here's the Unique House Fence Owned by an Architect in Turkey
Fence is a part of the house that serves as protection and a boundary. Fences are usually located in front of the yard and surround the house. The materials used to make house fences vary, and one of them is glass material.
The use of glass as a material for making fences is often chosen if the homeowner likes openness and wants to highlight the beauty of the yard or the house building itself. Glass fences are typically rectangular and transparent.
Now, if you're tired of the same old glass fence designs, you might find inspiration from the glass fence design of a villa in Turkey. When viewed from a distance, the design appears to be a typical rectangular glass fence, but as you get closer, you'll be surprised by the details. This glass fence is not just an ordinary fence; it's also an aquarium filled with many fish!
This idea came from a millionaire and topographical engineer named Mehmet Ali Gökçeoglu when he purchased his luxury villa in Çeşme, Turkey. The villa boasts a soothing view as it overlooks the Aegean Sea, which is close to the city of Çeşme.
However, Mehmet Ali Gökçeoglu was not entirely satisfied because he couldn't see the sea from every floor of the villa. He decided to replace the wooden and iron fence of his villa with long and thick glass panels that run parallel to each other. This idea was further enhanced by adding water and many fish to it. As a result, the villa's fence became an aquarium! Isn't it beautiful?
The glass used for making this aquarium fence is laminated tempered glass, known for its strength and shock resistance. Instead of using stainless steel for connections between the glass panels, Mehmet Ali Gökçeoglu used glass, creating a 50-meter-long aquarium.
Stainless steel was used as panels and borders placed above the aquarium, adding a modern touch to it. Mehmet Ali Gökçeoglu also installed stainless steel covers between these panels to ensure the safety of the aquarium.
The beauty of this aquarium fence may seem simple to build because the transparent structure is relatively easy to create in a project. However, the most challenging part is how to maintain the ecosystem of the aquarium. Mehmet Ali Gökçeoglu took this matter seriously. Instead of using groundwater for the aquarium, he opted for seawater. He connected the aquarium fence to the Aegean Sea through buried pipes that are 400 meters long. This was done to ensure a continuous flow of clean water and maintain the health of the marine inhabitants.
There are several types of marine animals in the aquarium, including Bass, Mullets, Eels, and Octopuses, totaling thousands of marine animals inhabiting the aquarium. To acquire these animals, Mehmet Ali Gökçeoglu hired a private diving team to carry out the aquarium's filling task. He was willing to pay around 40,000 Turkish Lira to fulfill his dream.
Inside the aquarium, iron mesh partitions were installed to separate different types of marine creatures. For example, there is a partition separating the Octopus from the Bass. This separation is essential to prevent different species from posing threats to each other.
At night, the villa looks incredibly beautiful with dozens of colorful LED lights illuminating it. Similarly, the aquarium fence has colorful LED lights installed by Mehmet Ali Gökçeoglu to enhance its beauty. This phenomenal aquarium fence has become an attraction for visitors from both inside and outside the country! Thousands of visitors have come to see this unique fence.
