ARTJOG is a contemporary art exhibition that has been held regularly once a year in the city of Yogyakarta. It is also a temporary art museum display that is open for a month. It is always a lively event that intrigues visitors with a different theme every year. Originally part of the Yogya Arts Festival, the art exhibition has been around since 2008 and then separated into its own series of events. Here are the themes of ARTJOG from year to year that have managed to keep visitors entertained and riveted.

1. Jogja Art Fair #1 (2008)

The earliest of these art exhibitions saw the participation of many talented young artists from across Indonesia. It first took place from June 15 to July 7, 2008. The exhibition, held at Taman Budaya Yogyakarta, showcased paintings and installations of various artistic media. At the entrance, a unique installation was designed with various images combined together. Approximately 250 artists displayed 450 artworks, both two-dimensional and three-dimensional, in the magnificent building of TBY.

2. Jogja Art Fair #2 (2009)

JAF #2 took place from August 18 to September 5, 2009. Still in the same location as before at TBY, this exhibition had a different concept. With the theme Spacing Contemporary, various works were selected until 218 works were displayed. The works themselves are made up of paintings, graffiti, murals, and even a video.

3. Art Jog - Indonesia Art Now - The Strategies of Being (2010)

This year's event was separated from the Yogyakarta Arts Festival, so the event had a new name: Art Jog. This year's Art Jog took place from July 16-29, 2010 at TBY. This year's theme was Indonesia Art Now, which showcased 158 works of art. Of course, the various arts were also traded at an agreed price.

4. Art Jog 2011

Held from July 16-29, 2011 at TBY, the Art Jog itself does not have a specific theme. This year the theme was Art Jog itself. Involving as many as 165 artists, the artworks on display were very interesting. 241 artworks from various media such as painting, sculpture, installation, and even video leave the viewer in awe. A lot of effort was put into dismantling and digging up the courtyard of the cultural park. This is certainly to achieve the artist's perfectionist view of his work.

5. Art Jog - Looking East - A Gaze upon Indonesia Contemporary Art (2012)

July 4 - 28, 2012 was something that the people of Jogja were looking forward to. This art exhibition with a long and attention-grabbing theme hopes that the public will be able to see more about what is happening in the eastern part of the world, especially in Indonesia. The front of the exhibition is already intriguing, with hundreds of coconut shells piled up under a giant elephant. The work, named Kelaparan di Lumbung Pangan, is a critique of Indonesia's condition because its people are starving even though Indonesia is a country rich in food resources. The magnificent bamboo installation by Joko Dwi Avianto symbolizes a forest vegetation. Many critical works are interesting and have implied meanings in them.

6. Art Jog - Maritime Culture (2013)

Held from July 6 - 20, 2013, this art jog exhibition has three exhibition categories: commission work, special presentation, and art fair. With the theme Maritime Culture, it reminds us that Indonesia is a maritime country and our ancestors were sailors. Of course, various artworks will be titled on this marine theme. The iconic whale tail is attached to the front of the TBY yard. Artists participating in this art fair are not only from Indonesia but also other countries such as Australia, Malaysia, Tokyo and the United States.

7. Art Jog - Legacies of Power (2014)

Still at Taman Budaya Yogyakarta, this Art Jog had the theme Legacies of Power. This political theme was brought up not only because it was interesting but also because it was timed to coincide with the general election year in Indonesia. Just like before, the front of the Art Jog exhibition itself showcased iconic works such as a display with an installation of 150 burlap sack doll figures titled Goni Kabinet. Hundreds of works by 103 artists have their own meanings that are part of the theme. One of the highlights of the 2014 exhibition was not only the contemporary works of painting and sculpture that impressed visitors, but also the recorded media art displayed on LCD monitors in some of the exhibition halls that showcased art in the form of stories.

8. Art Jog - Infinity In Flux (2015)

The 8th Art Jog, which took place from June 6 - 28, 2015, featured the works of 86 artists. The theme Infinity in Flux - The Unending Loop that Bonds the Artist and the Audience is very interesting to visit. The word Infinty, which means infinity, also represents the symbol of the number 8. Flux itself refers to the flow of art that emerged in the 60s and became the inspiration for Art Jog. By displaying works that can be felt by various senses, artists are encouraged to be creative and also need to combine static and dynamic aspects in their work. Unique and groundbreaking for art.

9. Art Jog - Universal Influence (2016)

Unlike the previous years, the 2016 Art Jog was held at the Jogja National Museum Building from May 27 to June 27, 2016. 62 artists from various regions displayed a variety of works from two-dimensional to performance. The theme itself is an understanding that global or universal culture comes from historical events. The 36-meter high tower that looked like a lighthouse became an iconic installation followed by its giant blower.

10. Art Jog - Changing Perspective (2017)

As the theme suggests, this year's exhibition invites visitors to change their perspective on things. The exhibition, which opened on May 19 to June 19, 2017, took place at JNM. Visitors are invited to enjoy the artwork through a different perspective. The eye installation became the icon of the entrance to the exhibition. Visitors are invited to be more open-minded and wise in seeing things.

11. Art Jog - Enlightment (2018)

Yep! This year, 2018, Art Jog is back, featuring a variety of unique works under the theme of Enlightment. Art Jog itself opens on May 4 to June 4, 2018, which means you can immediately go to JNM in the city of Yogyakarta to enjoy artworks from various local and international artists. With the theme of enlightenment, the works displayed are certainly different from the previous works. Art Jog 2018 is sure to captivate with its bright and unique display of works. Of course, with the implied meaning of each beautiful work of each artist. So, are you ready to come and enjoy the biggest antique event of the month in Yogyakarta??
