ARCHITECT ANALYSIS

Isandra Matin Ahmad, better known as Andra Matin, is a famous Indonesian architect who graduated from Parahyangan Catholic University class of 81. He was born in 1962 and since childhood, Andra Matin has always been interested in viewpoints that not only pay attention to the function side, but from the beauty side as well. He also does not want to be uniform with others and is always interested in different objects.

His father is a fine arts graduate of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). Therefore, Andra Matin often saw him drawing and the memory of being taught to use a pencil correctly by his father is a very memorable memory. Initially, Andra Matin wanted to major in planology at ITB but was not accepted.

Andra Matin always wanted the freedom to design and it was this desire that drove her to open her own studio. He also has a passion for strengthening local architecture that suits the tropical natural environment. He dislikes architecture that does not fit the site and location such as castle-shaped houses built in the tropics.

Concrete materials are often used by Andra Matin because he wants to emphasize the gray color in the appearance of his buildings. This is because according to him, gray is subtle and not so prominent compared to other colors. In addition, gray neutralizes the dust color that is often found in Jakarta. Concrete is also easy to maintain and sometimes does not need to be painted, showing an exposed appearance. He also thinks that concrete has an honest expression of the material and therefore has its own beauty.
