What’s one of the most relaxing parts of any bath? For me, it’s the bubble bath and my favorite bath pillow. It’s important to take good care of your bathtub pillow, however, if you want it to last as long as possible, which will also help keep your tub in good shape as well! Here are seven tips on how to make your bathtub pillow last longer...

1) Rinse the Bath Tub Pillow after Each Use

Bath tub pillows are water resistant, but they’re not waterproof. If you leave your bath tub pillow in a damp or wet environment for too long, mildew can grow inside it and start smelling funky. Rinsing it out after each use is a simple way to prevent mildew growth while prolonging its life.

2) Keep it Away from a Direct Source of Heat

The direct heat from a bath, especially when you run it while you’re in it, can make your pillow start to break down. If possible, try using a pillow that’s made of materials that are naturally resistant to breaking down with heat—or at least keep it away from any sources of direct heat.

3) Keep Away From Humidity

When you use a bath pillow for tub, make sure it’s not around steamy showers and humid bathroom conditions. Keeping it away from areas with excess moisture will help prevent mold from growing on your pillow, as well as preventing mildew from settling in. You can also hang it up on a hook so that you don’t have to worry about storing it while in a humid environment.

4) Dry it Immediately after Rinsing

Too often, we don’t get around to drying our bath pillows for tub after a rinse. And these wet pillows can be breeding grounds for mold and mildew—if you really want your pillow for bathtub to last longer, dry it immediately after you rinse! Also, make sure that your bath pillow for bathtub is completely dry before storing it away. You may even consider letting it air-dry on its own instead of using a towel or blow-drying device; too much heat can cause shrinkage over time.

5) Keep it Clean

The trick to lengthening your bath pillow’s lifespan is easy: keep it clean. It should be washed with gentle soap once a week, or every few uses if needed. If you want your pillow to smell fresh (because who doesn’t?) use a fragrance-free laundry detergent and follow up with an air dry. This will prevent mold and mildew from growing in between uses. Mold isn’t pretty, especially in your tub!

6) Don’t Use Harsh Chemicals or Soaps When Cleaning It

Using harsh chemicals or soaps when cleaning your bath pillow can wear down it quickly, meaning you’ll have to buy a new one sooner. Try using an all-natural cleaner like baking soda and vinegar instead, as these products are less abrasive on your tub material. Remember to also be careful about how hard you scrub; if it starts coming off in chunks, that means it’s time for a replacement.

7) Add Extra Water when You Fill Up the Tub

When you add extra water in your bathtub, it will give your pillow some room so that it won’t get stretched too quickly. You can test how much water you need by fluffing up your pillow before placing it inside of your tub. The amount of water needed is dependent on what type of pillow you have—flat pillows may not require any more than a couple inches while fluffy ones may need a few more.
