A Tranquil Home in Australia That Makes Its Residents Feel Comfortable and Relaxed in Every Room
This house, located in Fremantle, Australia, boasts an intriguing design. The exterior of the residence is adorned with a variety of unusual facade motifs, featuring various colors and materials. Designed by Philip Stejskal Architecture, this house covers an area of 220 square meters and sits prominently on its sloping main street.
The genesis of this design naturally stemmed from the architect's vision, combined with various requests from the client. The homeowner, who works offshore and spends a month or more away from home, sought a space that would allow relaxation and a temporary escape from work while at home.
For visitors, the house can be accessed through the front garden area, featuring an iron gate that leads directly to the front yard and the living area. However, the homeowner more often enters the house through a side door near the garage area.
The garage at the rear of the house is designed with a broad door that conceals its interior. The adjacent door leads to a terrace adorned with various potted plants. The black door serves as the entrance to the elongated corridor, uniquely designed with an arrangement of brick walls and flooring. Additionally, storage cabinets are placed along one wall.
Straight from the corridor, a small black-tiled pool comes into view. This pool exudes a welcoming and calming ambiance for those entering through this door. The natural light pouring in from the opposite wall and the freshness of the pool water contribute to a relaxed state of mind upon arriving home. This area also directly connects to the unique circular room inside the house.
The circular room in the center of the residence serves as a library. Books are neatly arranged on its light-colored wooden shelves, contrasting with the dark floor. The shelves have curved sections that create an enveloping feel. This space is also connected to a toilet, a laundry area, and a spiral staircase leading to the second floor of the house. This room acts as a passage to the main public area of the house at the front.
The living room in this house is designed with high ceilings, creating a sense of spaciousness and brightness, especially with the use of white on the upper walls and ceiling, in contrast to the black floor. Natural stone brick walls with unique arrangements add character to the room. It's undoubtedly a pleasant space to be in.
Next to it, the dining area sits opposite the living room. With a rectangular table, there are long cushioned benches and chairs on the other side. The room exudes a natural and elegant vibe, reflected in the materials and colors used. Moreover, the dining area is conveniently located near the outdoor terrace, enhancing the dining experience with views of the front garden.
The kitchen area follows a similar concept to the dining room. It features black ceramic walls and dark brown furniture, further accentuating its luxurious and elegant ambiance. At the end of the kitchen, there's an air vent that connects to the water feature in the entry corridor. This ventilation ensures that cooking odors are promptly expelled and do not linger in the kitchen or central area.
The second floor serves as the private area of the house, with one main bedroom and two single bedrooms. A bathroom with a bathtub, toilet, and shower is centrally located on this floor and serves all bedroom occupants.
The main bedroom faces the main street, with its glass window offering views of the front garden. The room features a minimalist design with simple colors like white, black, and gray. A touch of yellow accents brightens up the room, creating a cheerful and pleasant atmosphere. The front facade of the house, with its various openings, also provides shading from direct sunlight into the bedroom.
Returning to the bathroom, it boasts a bright design with an all-white color scheme for the walls, floor, and fixtures. Black accents can be seen in the pipes and hangers. The black-framed glass window adds variation to the otherwise monochromatic room. The white aesthetics give the bathroom a clean and comfortable feel. However, this bathroom also requires extra maintenance, as even minor dirt is clearly visible in the space.
This residential house doesn't stop at the second floor. The rooftop features a relaxation area where one can enjoy the surrounding views. This spacious area can be utilized for various family activities while unwinding.
The house's design is truly refreshing, particularly in the front garden, which has been transformed into a lush oasis. Wooden decking allows residents to stroll freely in the garden, complemented by stone pathways that pamper the feet. Shaded seating areas provided by leafy trees complete the tranquil atmosphere.
