Cirqua Apartments: Apartemen Berbentuk Kubus yang Menyajikan Suasana Berbeda pada Eksterior dan Interiornya
One of the buildings in Australia is an apartment designed by BKK Architects. Named Cirqua Apartments, this building was designed in 2017. It stands on a 5800 m2 plot of land that interprets the local house-building type. Cirqua Apartments have become a new environment for the East Ivanhoe area.
Situated in suburban Melbourne, Cirqua Apartments naturally offer a diverse design in line with apartment market trends. The apartments provide living spaces with high-quality, sustainable infrastructure and materials, creating a suitable atmosphere for individuals.
The design consists of 44 residential blocks situated on a steep site. Circular windows and balconies serve as focal points of the apartments. Additionally, the facade significantly influences the flow of natural light into the interior and acts as a ventilation system for the building. The overall design draws inspiration from the structures and house types of the surrounding historic area.
The building is constructed with materials such as brick, metal frames, and wooden partitions, reflecting materials from the Art Deco and Federation eras. The brickwork is laid with varying depths to replicate the rhythm of suburban street fronts, departing from the often applied front yard concept of residential houses.
BKK Architects emphasized accessibility and passive environmental control in the design, ensuring the apartments provide a comfortable home for families. Out of the 44 units, 38 have different and unique designs. They present these apartment blocks as 'homes' rather than mere 'products.'
The connecting building corridors between the units are uniquely designed with wooden beam materials on the walls. Circular design elements can also be observed on some interior walls. The 4-story apartment building provides parking areas for residents. The shape and layout of each residential block can vary due to different orientations and sizes.
The provided floor plan is one of the apartment layouts within the building. This unit comprises a master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom, two additional bedrooms, a bathroom in the middle area, a family room, a living room, and a dining room integrated with the kitchen. Additionally, there is a balcony connected to the central living area.
The central living space facing the circular windows on the facade receives ample natural light. It also connects to the balcony, which is designed for relaxation. This all-white room is furnished with neutral gray-toned furniture, creating a spacious and bright atmosphere.
The dining and kitchen areas are also equipped with all-white furnishings, with some black accents on elements like the dining table, chairs, and kitchen table. The wooden floor adds to the room's aesthetics, complementing the overall design.
The bedrooms feature large windows to integrate natural light and ventilation into the building. These windows create a comfortable space with ample incoming light. They are also designed as part of the building's facade expression.
The uniqueness of Cirqua Apartments goes beyond its cube-like facade; it extends to its colors and materials. From the outside, the building is clad in black brick materials with iconic circular windows. However, the interior reveals a different ambiance. In the connecting corridors, brown and yellow hues dominate the space due to the wooden materials used. In the interior of the units, visitors are welcomed into a clean, white atmosphere that makes the homes feel spacious. These three distinct experiences make the apartment building far from dull.
