The design of this 55-square-meter apartment is simple and compact, even though it minimizes the use of mirrors.

The apartment in the Pakubuwono area of South Jakarta, covering an area of 55 square meters, has a simple and compact design. The homeowner or client wanted the residence to feel more spacious than the previous layout and have plenty of storage space, while minimizing the use of mirrors.

Suasana Studio, as the designer of this apartment, transformed almost the entire existing layout to meet the client's desires. Initially, the apartment consisted of 3 bedrooms, 1 maid's bedroom, and 3 bathrooms. Now, the layout has been changed to 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and 1 powder room.

Originally, the living room had a relatively narrow space. After some demolition, an area for a shoe storage foyer was created. Interestingly, this storage area acts as a partition between the foyer and the living room.

The design of the storage was intentionally made quite long, measuring 180 cm, to accommodate the client's shoe collection. The choice of white color adds a simple touch to the room.

Parallel to the foyer, there is a kitchen area that resulted from the demolition. The client enjoys cooking, so the designer expanded the kitchen. Uniquely, the kitchen is divided into two parts on the right and left of the foyer. The right side functions as the preparation and cooking area.

Light-colored wooden cabinet material was chosen to create a compact look. This wood color is combined with marble material for the backsplash and tabletop.

The left side of the kitchen serves as the wet area. Despite being a wet area, the kitchen still looks clean thanks to the cabinets used for storage, including a place for trash.

Moving on to the living room area, the demolition made it look more spacious. The sofa was intentionally placed against the shoe storage area, a clever way to maximize the limited space.

Brightly colored vinyl wood was used for the living room floor. The client wanted the warmth of wood but without the hassle of maintenance. Vinyl wood was the right choice because it's easier to care for than hardwood.

The living room design has a warm atmosphere with indirect lighting, which can make the room come alive. It's worth trying for your own residence!

One wall is used as a display area for the client's collection of vinyl records, showcasing an artistic decoration.

On the right side of the living room, the designer placed a compact dining area. To make the most of the limited space, the designer chose four stackable stools that could be stored under the dining table when not in use.

Next is the master bedroom. The room has been made larger, designed with a white and brown color scheme as accents, and made compact. The designer utilized various corners of the room for storage, from under the bed to the headboard and above the work desk.

The placement of the work desk next to the bed is not without reason. In addition to receiving direct sunlight from the window, it also makes it easier for the client to sit up from the bed, eliminating the need for a separate work chair. Pretty clever, isn't it?

Now, the headboard area is integrated with the walk-in closet. A straight line was intentionally designed to facilitate circulation without obstructing the view. The built-in wardrobe that serves as the headboard is quite unique.

This wardrobe is designed with sliding doors to save space. When opened, not only is the storage area visible, but there's also a dressing table! The table is made minimalist, with a chair neatly stored inside.

In the master bedroom, there is also an en-suite bathroom. The designer replaced all the materials with granite tiles that combine white and black colors, giving it a more elegant appearance.

The guest bedroom is located across from the master bedroom. The design is created with built-in furniture for the wardrobe and storage. Since the client is single, this room serves as accommodation for a few friends who might stay over.

For your information, all the doors in this apartment are designed as pocket doors (similar to sliding doors). This type of door is suitable for compact living because it seems to "disappear" when slid open as they are hidden.
