An architectural firm in Seoul named Architectural Inter-Network Group, abbreviated as AIN Group, successfully designed a 68-square-meter plot of land with a 3-meter-wide building facade into a residential house. This mini-sized house is located in Guro-dong and consists of three residential floors with a total floor area of 72.28 square meters.

The land for this house has a frontage of eight meters facing the street, while the back is a steep slope. With a width of three meters and a length of thirteen meters, the architects designed this unique house following the trend of slim houses.

This house is built between two existing buildings and is designed for three different individuals who will live together.

Creating spaces with natural lighting while maintaining privacy inside the narrow three-meter-wide plot presented a challenge.

Various ideas were implemented in this house to ensure its functionality. This includes dividing the space on each floor of the building, using polycarbonate panel walls to allow light to pass through the rooms, and adding a skylight to the roof of the building.

Despite having three main floors, there is further division of space, resulting in five levels within the building. The two bedrooms are located at the top and bottom of the building, with the area in between used for communal activities such as gathering, dining, and living spaces.

The main staircase in the building is located in the center and serves as a separator between the spaces. On the first floor, in addition to the bedrooms, there is also a covered parking area under the second-floor cantilever.

Polycarbonate enclosure walls are placed at the southeast corner of the house to allow light to enter all levels of the house. The skylight is positioned directly above the main staircase, allowing the incoming light to create a warm atmosphere.

The interior finishes and furniture in the house are kept simple and straightforward, with contrasting colors added to the communal areas. The main staircase is adorned with teal blue, while the kitchen features a more contrasting black color.

Limited land and limited space for movement made the construction of this house quite challenging. Building a house according to standard construction practices would not be practical or feasible on such a narrow plot. Therefore, the construction concept employs a modular house concept.

A modular system is a construction method where materials and building elements are processed in a factory and then assembled on-site. This allows for the construction process to be carried out efficiently, quickly, and cost-effectively.
