Young couple Hope Holland and Reed Fawley have recently moved to New York, United States. They now reside in a studio apartment with one room, located precisely in the Williamsburg Apartments. The apartment building features characteristic Brooklyn exposed brick, high ceilings, old wooden beams, and steel-framed windows. The existing apartment resembles what you often see in most Hollywood films.

An interior designer named Becky Shea from Homepolish Interior Design helped this couple create a comfortable home that matches their personalities. Shea's challenge was to preserve the industrial-style architecture of the apartment while adapting it to the current occupants.

Shea combined the public spaces in the apartment, including the living room, dining area, and kitchen, into one cohesive area. The result was satisfying, and the apartment now looks more contemporary, filled with a fresh atmosphere befitting the young couple's personalities. The industrial style doesn't appear too rigid as it usually does. Therefore, Shea chose brown, white, and black colors for the apartment's design concept.

Living Room

Shea created a cozy and warm atmosphere in the living room, not only for the owners but also for visiting guests. Natural light streaming in through large windows makes this limited-space apartment feel more spacious. Additionally, the choice of white wall paint enhances the clean and open feel. Interestingly, the ceiling made of steel is also painted white to align with the clean concept. This is unique because industrial style often leans towards darker colors like black. Shea opted for a large L-shaped sofa to accommodate the owners' friends or family.

Furniture selection was also carefully considered by Shea. She avoided oversized furniture that would make the apartment feel cramped. As a result, the TV is mounted on the wall, accompanied by a credenza with plenty of shelves for storage.

For the owner, who enjoys reading, Shea created a reading area utilizing the L-shaped sofa itself. However, Shea added additional reading lamps on the wall near the sofa to facilitate reading with extra lighting.

Dining Area

Moving on to the dining area, Shea chose a dining table that seats four people. If you look closely, you'll notice two different chair types with different colors. It creates a unique impression, doesn't it? The dining area feels intimate thanks to the use of wooden material on the table, which fits well with the applied industrial style.

On the wall, there is some eye-catching decoration – the placement of three mirrors of various shapes. One mirror is freestanding against the wall, while the other two are hung on the wall near the kitchen. The use of mirrors serves not only as decorative accents but also as a way to create the illusion of a larger space.

Kitchen

Integrated with the dining area, there is the kitchen space. Since the area is quite limited, Shea used single-line kitchen cabinets. Embracing the open concept in the storage area, Shea utilized the vertical space in the kitchen for storage. It's a clever solution to tackle the issue of limited space.

The kitchen design is also made interesting with the pattern on the backsplash. The floral details and the choice of terracotta color blend seamlessly with the apartment's concept. This design seems to represent the energetic personality of the owners. Moreover, the industrial style doesn't appear overly dark.

Home Corner

Utilizing a corner in the home, Shea placed a console table. The table size is tailored to fit the available wall space. Shea chose a simple table design with wooden material and iron table legs. As decorative accents, she placed vases and baskets under the table.
