Minimalist Four-Story House Design in India on a Limited 55 Square Meter Land, Enhancing Aesthetics and Comfort

A residential house with a land area of 55 square meters consists of four floors located in Bengaluru, India. A highly unique and sleek minimalist design was implemented in the house by Rohan Ashwin Architects. Due to limited land space, the house needed to be adjusted in size. Furthermore, the narrow spacing between the buildings posed a challenge for the architect in designing the mass of the house.

Incorporating light and air into the house had to be considered in designing the facade and interior spaces. The main road and the main entrance of the house face west, where the light source enters since the other three sides are covered by neighboring residential buildings. Openings in the west direction and the roof make the house brighter and more comfortable.

On the front facade of the house, a unique four-story dwelling with horizontal lines is visible. The diverse facade adds uniqueness to the house. Various angles are designed with open spaces and glass walls with horizontal shading. The white walls reflect a distinct minimalist appearance compared to the neighboring house.

On the ground floor plan, there is a vehicle garage large enough for one car, along with a studio room equipped with a living area, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom. This floor can certainly function as a guest bedroom for those staying in the house. Both the owners and guests maintain a high level of privacy. Additionally, the space on this floor can be rented out.

To reach the main living area, the owner or visitors need to climb the outdoor stairs. The stairs beside the entrance lead directly to the terrace, where there is also a small garden, adding a sense of freshness to the house.

Upon entering the house, visitors are greeted by a comfortable living room area with a cozy sofa. The living room is designed with a high ceiling due to the presence of a void, creating a more spacious feeling. The use of white color and the designed horizontal lines for light ventilation further enhance the ambiance. High curtains are also available if needed to cover the walls. The room is equipped with a television and a unique triangular coffee table that suits the space well.

Behind the living room, there is a long kitchen area with two kitchen tables. Smoke absorbers are also present to ensure comfort in this small, minimally ventilated space. The combination of white and black colors provides an elegant minimalist atmosphere, making the residence look spacious with its white color. With simple lighting, every corner reflects the light from the ceiling.

In addition to the living room and kitchen, there is also a dining area, a prayer room, and a restroom. The prayer room is designed to be minimal in size, featuring a deity statue for worship. The room is enclosed by walls and glass doors, ensuring privacy and preventing unrestricted access to the prayer space.

The dining area, located on the front facade of the residence, receives natural lighting from glass windows, filtered by horizontal shading to prevent excessive heat or glare. White-colored tables and chairs adorn this space beautifully and brightly. The staircase leading to the upper level is also uniquely designed, with iron railing on one side of the wall and rope partitions on the other. Aesthetically pleasing and unique.

On the third floor, there is a bedroom area with en-suite bathrooms. The void plays a significant role in forming high ceilings for the living room and family room. Just below the staircase leading to the next upper floor, there is a study or workspace that is quite spacious. With a simple and clean desk design and wooden shelves that offer a tidy and organized look. Additionally, iron railing is provided around the void area for safety.

The fourth floor, the topmost floor of the residence, is utilized as the private space of the homeowner. There are two bedrooms complete with en-suite bathrooms. One is the main bedroom, and the other is a smaller bedroom for a child. In the middle of this floor, there is a relaxed seating area that serves as a mini-lobby. The wall-mounted seats can be used for relaxation or displaying various unique decorations.

The main bedroom, with its queen-sized bed, is equipped with various facilities such as air conditioning and a spacious balcony area. This balcony serves as an area to bring light and air into the main bedroom. The ample balcony space can also be used to enjoy mornings or evenings while sipping a warm beverage. Various plants are placed in pots around its walls.

What's unique about the staircase leading to the top floor is that its roof uses glass, allowing direct light from above to enter. There is also a door at the end of the staircase that provides access to utility spaces and the rooftop terrace, which can be used for relaxation or various activities such as drying clothes or food items.

So, what are your thoughts on this minimalist dwelling design?
