S+I House: A North Jakarta Home with a Hidden Secret for Maintaining a Cool Ambiance Inside

This luxurious house is located in North Jakarta, Indonesia, within a residential area. The three-story house boasts a total area of 600 square meters and is situated on a 440-square-meter plot of land. Designed by DP+HS Architects, the house is positioned between the main road on the west side and a small alley on the south side. Given that the building is located in a corner lot, the choice of the main entrance becomes crucial. The consideration is that the main road on the west side has setback boundary lines that affect the reduction of the front building size. Therefore, the architect decided to place the main entrance on the south-facing side.

With this decision, the reduced building area on the west side can be used as an open space for gatherings. This open space is also connected to the living room and family room. Extending the family room to the outdoor area makes the central space more spacious. The family room is designed far from the main entrance to ensure privacy.

Although this house is quite large, it is occupied by a small family. However, the grandeur of the house is suitable for hosting large family gatherings, making it convenient to accommodate many people in the spacious rooms. Of course, the house also needs extra rooms for visiting relatives.

The applied concept is the "compartment box." The idea behind this concept is to provide space between two large box masses. Then, each box is displayed with a strong character through the use of materials on its facade.

Open spaces divide the two building masses and provide freshness to the interior rooms. The open areas on the third floor and rooftop make the box-like building masses appear less rigid. Additionally, light and air can enter through cross ventilation systems from both inside and outside the building. The uniqueness and freshness of the rooftop are further enhanced by the presence of a built-in swimming pool. The pool also helps reduce the indoor temperature of the building.

This cool house is equipped with tall trees and protective elements in the garden area. With sufficient shading, the deck and pool area on the west side of the building's open space can be used as a gathering place. It also serves as an extension of the family room area.

This family home is designed with a modular structure combined with modern architecture through its building details. The style of the building is evident in its monochromatic color scheme with black elements on the doors and window frames. This was done to clearly define the spatial layout.

Exposed materials in the house provide a consistent color scheme in the interior, such as the use of concrete in the family room, exposed brick in the study room, and various other designs. Striking colors are reserved for the furniture and decorations within the house.
