he Bali-based architectural studio, Word of Mouth, abbreviated as WOM, is known for its dynamic and youthful approach to both architecture and interior design. Led by experienced architect Valentina Audrito, the studio has worked on a wide range of projects, from private homes to commercial spaces, and even healthcare environments.

One of their remarkable creations is Villa Tantangan, situated on Nyanyi Beach, a private and pristine area on the western coast of Bali. Spanning approximately 6,500 square meters of land, the villa is designed to capture views of the Indian Ocean to the west and a natural river to the north. Additionally, it offers glimpses of a local beachside temple and distant mountains. These features harmonize the architectural structure with its surroundings, emphasizing the concept of landscape architecture as a connection between the built environment and nature.

The villa's design centers around a central open space, creating intimate connections between the various buildings. The buildings are strategically positioned at different heights on the uneven terrain. Surrounding the structures are lush vegetation and fish ponds, blurring the boundaries between nature and the built environment. This design ensures that the architecture not only stands but also becomes an integral part of its natural setting.

Villa Tantangan incorporates various eco-friendly systems and design approaches to make it self-sustainable. The separated buildings create cooler spaces within the villa due to the presence of open areas between them. Additionally, each building varies in height, providing a terraced effect. Solar panels are prioritized to harness natural energy sources.

The surrounding land is designed with pockets for planting, offering natural cooling between the spaces formed. Rainwater harvesting systems are also implemented to ensure the villa functions efficiently.

Another design approach involves using natural and locally sourced materials from Bali. This not only supports local material providers but also reduces costs and the need for long-distance transportation. The materials used in the construction blend seamlessly with the landscape, further enhancing the integration of the villa with its surroundings.

The pathways throughout the landscape provide a refreshing and comfortable experience for villa guests, allowing them to enjoy the fresh breeze and the lush greenery of the garden.

Bamboo is a dominant material in both the exterior and interior of the villa. Aside from being a locally sourced material, bamboo is eco-friendly, aligning with WOM's commitment to creating an eco-system within the structure.

Inside the central living area of the villa, a beautiful blend of natural colors is evident, with earthy browns from wood and bamboo complemented by striking light blue accents. This contrasting color scheme creates a bright and refreshing ambiance within the building. Notably, unique bamboo pendant lights adorn the space, adding to the villa's natural charm, both inside and out.

The bedrooms feature a simple yet beautiful design. Dominated by white, they exude a sense of tranquility. The use of draped mosquito nets around the beds adds a romantic touch, perfect for couples residing in this tranquil haven.

In contrast to the living spaces and bedrooms, the bathrooms are designed with elegant colors. The combination of wooden floors with ceramic walls and black marble countertops imparts a luxurious feel to the bathrooms. Large glass windows facing the garden emphasize the villa's immersion in nature, even within the confines of each bathroom.
