Distort House: Unique Eco-Friendly Home in the Dense City of Jakarta

Located in South Jakarta, Indonesia, the Distort House was designed by TWS & Partners. The rotation of the axis of the land and the building can create something different. Situated in the lush and still green surroundings of South Jakarta, in front of the house lies a public garden with many large, mature trees. To make the most of the house's position, the axis of the house was rotated by 15 degrees to maximize the benefits of the city park. Furthermore, by turning the axis of the house, it appears unique and responds better to the surrounding environment.

The green area in front of the house serves as an intermediary open space for the residents, acting as a visual bridge to the natural surroundings and facilitating the transition between the garden and the house itself. This area also allows for better air circulation in and out of the house.

The trees provide a never-ending sense of freshness, producing fresh and healthy air. Meanwhile, the remaining land is maximized for spaces with more general functions. In this regard, the architect allows the house to breathe a little by creating a large open space without walls or even glass.

If you were in this house, you would experience living in the midst of nature. A small living room serves as a welcoming space for family members, connecting them to the upper floor and bedrooms. The staircase uses minimal crossing and bridges the entire building mass, creating a sensation of merging with the incredible natural surroundings.

The relationship between the building and nature implies some applications of recycled materials. The architect used recycled wood for the windows to allow for ventilation, and some fixed windows with Louver or clear glass to bring light into the building. They used various forms that create patchwork patterns on the staircase facade.

The uniqueness of the house's facade is evident due to the diverse exposed materials and the non-monotonous arrangement of materials on one side. As a result, this house also has an artistic appearance. The combination of building mass, facade, and materials is truly harmonious and beautiful.

A unique house, isn't it? So, not everything that is tilted is unattractive and without purpose. A house designed like this structure makes the interior feel cooler and also attracts attention from the outside. It seems that the Distort House could be the design solution for your dream home in the future.
